Resource Room
All students entering The Chapel School are screened
to assess that they have the intelligence and capability to successfully
achieve with our rigorous curriculum. However, some students, although
they meet those criteria, may have a learning disability or academic
weakness in reading, math or organizational skills. The Resource Room,
under the leadership of Mrs. Ann Terenzio, is a special service available
to these students. The Resource Room program offers learners the support,
encouragement and personal attention so they can grow in self esteem,
succeed and learn to the best of their abilities. Through a multi-sensory
approach, the pupils are taught the skills and strategies to overcome
their challenges. This is most frequently accomplished through one on
one or small group sessions with Mrs. Terenzio in the Resource Room
(pull-out) and occasionally by having her work with the student in his/her
classroom (push-in).
Individualized goals are formulated for each student
to strengthen his/her skills. These are shared with parents in a one
on one meeting at the end of the first marking period. A written student
progress report is shared with parents and students for the second,
third and fourth quarters.
In addition, Mrs. Terenzio serves as a consultant and
support to other teachers who have concerns regarding students and their
academic progress, observing students and offering strategies to help
them learn more effectively.
She also confers with Chapel School parents regarding
concerns about their child’s progress and, when necessary, assists
them in obtaining a formal evaluation and guides them through their
school district’s process.
The Chapel School honors and complies with Individual
Education Plans and 504 Plans and their accommodations issued by students’
local board of education, whether or not the student receives resource
room support from Chapel School.
Mrs. Terenzio can be reached Monday through Friday at extension #1112 or at
aterenzio@thechapelschool.org.
